DA Rollins Hosts 1st Annual Back 2 School Event
BOSTON, August 28, 2019 — Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins’ Office will co-sponsor the 1st Annual Back 2 School Kickoff event tomorrow afternoon, bringing together members of law enforcement, nonprofits, educators, and the community to support children beginning a new year of learning. The free event will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School.
The event will feature a backpack giveaway, children’s activities, dunk tank, and other end-of-summer fun. In addition, parent resource tables will be hosted by 20 nonprofit partner agencies – including organizations that received a combined total of $100,000 through District Attorney Rollins’ Community Reinvestment Grants program earlier this year. In addition to the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School, the Martin Luther King Jr. K-8 School, Jeremiah E. Burke High School, William Monroe Trotter School, and Rev. Dr. Michael E. Hanes Early Education Center are also event partners.
Though District Attorney Rollins will be unable to attend the event, she will be represented by members of her Community Engagement Office, staff assigned to the Dorchester Division of Boston Municipal Court, and other members of her office. Approximately 300 backpacks filled with schools supplies will be given children attending the event. The backpacks, donated by Target, will also contain a letter from District Attorney Rollins. The giveaway is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
“Our community partners do vital work supporting the wellbeing of our neighborhoods and the bright futures of our youth. And our most important partners of all are the youth themselves. We want to make sure that they have the opportunity for healthy summer fun and that they and their families are prepared for the school year ahead,” District Attorney Rollins said. “I’m proud to host this event connecting Suffolk County kids and their families with members of this office and the nonprofits that serve our communities.”
