Dorchester man faces two counts of indecent assault and battery from Oct. 15 Red Line incident
BOSTON, October 26, 2022 — A Boston man accused of indecently assaulting two teenage sisters on a Red Line train earlier this month was ordered held in lieu of $350 bail today after being arraigned in South Boston BMC, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.
EDGAR ALONSO, 35, of Dorchester is charged with two counts of indecent assault and battery. Judge John Garland set bail at $350 and ordered Alonso to stay away from Broadway and Andrew MBTA stations, stay away from the victims and remain alcohol-free with random testing. Alonso will return to court November 22 for a pre-trial hearing.
Assistant District Attorney James Duffy said that at about 8:15 pm on October 15 police responded to Braintree MBTA station for a report of an indecent assault and battery which took place on a Red Line train. The victims told police they and their mother boarded an outbound train at Downtown Crossing and that a man placed his hands on their buttocks before exiting the train at Broadway station. The victims provided a detailed description of the man and told police the man stumbled as if intoxicated when he exited the train at Broadway. Several days later the victims were shown video surveillance footage and identified the man.
The man, later identified as Alonso, was spotted by a police officer on Tuesday, October 25 in the Downtown Crossing area. Officers showed Alonso stills from the video surveillance footage. Alonso admitted to being the person shown in the stills and was placed under arrest.
“These sisters were riding with other members of their family on public transportation and had every expectation of being able to do so without being bothered or harassed, much less being indecently assaulted. We’re very thankful for the descriptive information these brave young women provided in order to help police identify the person accused of this deplorable act,” Hayden said.
