Dangerousness hearing ordered for Boston teen charged with firearm, ammunition, motor vehicle and breaking/entering offenses
BOSTON, November 8, 2022 — A 14-year-old from Boston was charged in Suffolk County Juvenile Court today with multiple firearm, breaking and entering and motor vehicle offenses stemming from an incident in Dorchester last Friday, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
The juvenile is charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, felony breaking and entering nighttime, unlicensed operation of motor vehicle, resisting arrest and numerous operating offenses. Judge Michael J. Coyne ordered the juvenile held without bail pending a November 9 dangerousness hearing.
On Friday, November 4 at approximately 10:37 pm, Youth Violence Strike Force officers were on patrol in the area of Columbia Road and Quincy Street in Dorchester when they noticed a vehicle with a brake light and license plate light out and an expired registration sticker. After the light turned green, the car failed to yield to oncoming traffic while turning left, almost causing a collision.
Officers pulled over the vehicle and instructed the operator, later identified as the juvenile, to shut off the vehicle. The juvenile refused. Officers noticed a fanny-pack style bag strapped to the juvenile’s chest, and saw a firearm on the passenger side floor. When officers seized the firearm the juvenile fled, and pursuing officers saw him enter a dwelling on Quincy Street. After taking the juvenile into custody in the stairwell of the dwelling, officers spoke with a resident who told them that the juvenile had forced his way into her apartment and sat on her couch, telling her he could not go back to jail. The woman, who did not know the juvenile, eventually convinced him to leave her apartment.
The juvenile was wearing a GPS tracking device from an earlier case.
An adult passenger in the vehicle, DANIEL WASHINGTON, 32, was also arrested. Washington was arraigned in Dorchester BMC Monday and ordered held in lieu of $5000 bail, plus home confinement and GPS tracking. He was charged with firearm and ammunition offenses, assault and battery, resisting arrest and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Washington returns to court December 5 for a pre-trial conference.
“It’s extremely sad to see such a young person involved in multiple offenses, particularly including a loaded firearm. We’ve seen too many young people hit by gunfire and we take all cases of juveniles with guns seriously, both for their safety and community safety,” Hayden said.
