Man arrested with ghost gun leads to seizure of weapons cache
BOSTON, December 5, 2022 —The arrest of a Boston man on weapons charges Friday led to a search warrant execution at his apartment on Sunday that yielded a silencer, a armored vest, a shotgun, a high-capacity magazine and numerous rounds of ammunition, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
JHOVANNI JACKSON, 23, was arraigned in Roxbury BMC today on multiple weapons and ammunition charges and resisting arrest. Judge Debra DelVecchio ordered Jackson held on $100,000 bail on the arrest and search warrant charges in addition to a 60-day bail revocation on an existing case and surrender of passport, home confinement and GPS tracking if released.
Assistant District Attorney Eleanor Landbaum said that Boston police on Friday arrested Jackson after a brief struggle and recovered a 9mm ghost gun and a magazine containing 15 rounds. Based on the arrest police executed a search warrant at Jackson’s Alexander Street apartment on Sunday and recovered a 31-round extended 9mm magazine, a 12-gauge shotgun, a bulletproof vest, a firearm silencer, numerous rounds of various-caliber bullets and more than 30 12-gauge shotgun shells.
Jackson will return to court January 5 for a probable cause hearing.
“The weaponry and accessories here are frightening. This is the type of firepower that conjures up nightmarish imagery of urban warfare,” Hayden said.
