Boston Police Officer Arraigned on Witness Intimidation Charges
BOSTON, March 7, 2022 — Boston Police Officer Matthew Morrissey was arraigned today in the Dorchester Division of Boston Municipal Court on witness intimidation charges for his actions against a BPD anti-corruption officer who was leading an investigation into Morrissey’s violation of city residency requirements, District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden said.
“All of us in law enforcement are supposed to protect the residents of the municipalities in which we serve, and we are rightfully held to the highest standard,’’ said DA Hayden. “The actions of Officer Morrissey are troubling on many levels: he lied about where he lived, and he intimidated a fellow officer who had placed him on administrative leave.’’
In court, ADA Erik Bennett, deputy chief of Hayden’s Special Prosecution Unit, said Morrissey went to the home of the other officer and blocked access to the house with his truck, rolled down his window and stared at the fellow officer.
Judge Thomas Kaplanes released Morrissey on personal recognizance and ordered him to stay away from the fellow officer’s home and the anti-corruption division of the Boston Police.
Morrissey is represented by Ken Anderson. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for April 21, 2022.
