Weymouth woman arraigned on gun, drug charges

BOSTON, June 16, 2022—A Weymouth woman faces drug and gun charges after police witnessed her dealing drugs out of her car in Boston and discovered a loaded gun in the vehicle during her arrest, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.

SHANNON MAHONEY, 38, is charged with carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a firearm in a felony, possession of a firearm without an FID card, and two counts of possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute.

Mahoney was arraigned in the West Roxbury Division of Boston Municipal Court on June 9.  Judge Maureen Flaherty set bail at $1,500 with the conditions of a GPS device with home confinement and a substance abuse evaluation.

On June 8, Boston Police were surveilling the area of 705 River Street after receiving complaints about drug activity. During their surveillance, officers saw a man walk up to the passenger side of a blue Toyota Rav4 and make an apparent exchange. Officers stopped the buyer, who said that he paid $180 for drugs. Officers then stopped the car and saw the driver, Mahoney, reaching into the center console. Police ordered Mahoney out and searched her vehicle.

Inside, they found a bag of mushrooms and two bags with more than seven grams of cocaine. In the center console they found a .380-cal Smith & Wesson handgun with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine.

Mahoney pleaded not guilty and will return to court July 19.
