Boston Man Arraigned, Held Following Gun Arrest While Shooting Music Video in South Boston Park

BOSTON, August 17, 2022— A Boston man is being held pending a dangerousness hearing after being arrested Tuesday with a high-capacity firearm while filming a music video in a South Boston park, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

JUNIOR MARTINEZ-PERELLO, 23, is charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and resisting arrest.  Judge Pamela Dashiell ordered Martinez-Perello held pending an August 19 dangerousness hearing.  Assistant District Attorney James Murphy indicated that he will move to revoke Martinez-Perello’s bail on an open trafficking case out of Norfolk County.

At around 7:30 pm on Tuesday, August 16, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force were conducting a gang investigation in the area of 200 D Street in South Boston.  While conducting surveillance of the area they saw a group of 25-30 people around the Orton Field Basketball Court.

Officers observed Martinez-Perello being filmed for a music video. When officers approached Martinez-Perello he turned away while pinning his right arm to the front of his waistband. Officers conducted a pat frisk and felt a gun tucked into Martinez-Perello’s waistband. Martinez-Perello attempted to flee and began to reach for his gun. Officers brought him to the ground. Martinez-Perello continued to fight the officers. Officers eventually subdued Martinez-Perello and recovered a .40-cal Smith & Wesson 4003 with large-capacity feeding device. The gun had 10 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber.

“This is a park where parents and children gather to have fun and play sports and generally enjoy themselves, especially on pleasant summer evenings.  We’re going to do everything we can to make sure that their ability to access a resource like this isn’t endangered by people who carry high-capacity firearms and fight with police officers,” Hayden said.
