Dorchester Man Sent to Evaluation After Arrested with High-Capacity Ghost Gun

BOSTON, August 2, 2022—A Dorchester man has been sent for evaluation after he was arrested leaving the Puerto Rican Festival Sunday evening with a high-capacity, laser-sighted ghost gun, District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.

MARC SERRANO, 28, appeared in the Dorchester Division of Boston Municipal Court yesterday on charges of carrying a firearm without a license as a second offense, unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying ammunition without a firearm identification card as a subsequent offense and carrying a loaded firearm without a license. Serrano was evaluated by a court clinician sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for further evaluation.  Bail and related motions will be argued at the next court date.

On July 30th officers near Franklin Park on festival safety patrol arrested Serrano on a warrant for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon out of the Roxbury BMC.  A search of Serrano’s backpack revealed a ghost gun equipped with a green HiLight laser attachment and an extended, high-capacity magazine capable of holding up to 31 rounds of ammunition. The gun had one round caught between the slide and ejection port, one round in the chamber and 24 rounds in the extended magazine.

Serrano has an open firearm-related charges out of Roxbury BMC and a pending case charging assault with a dangerous weapon (to wit: knife) in West Roxbury BMC.

“The weapon recovered here is a community nightmare. It’s capacity to cause injury and death on a multiple scale is truly frightening.  We have seen the tragic outcome of firearms wielded at festivals and other large gatherings. We cannot allow weapons such as the one to wreak havoc and destruction on our neighborhoods,” Hayden said.

Serrano returns to court on August 18.
