Detainee charged with attacking caseworker at Nashua Street Jail last week
BOSTON, September 21, 2022 — A Boston man being held in the Nashua Street Jail on prior assault charges—including an August assault on a corrections officer—was charged today in Boston Municipal Court Central Division with attacking a caseworker last Thursday at the jail, resulting in her being taken to the hospital for treatment, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
AHMAD MAIDEN, 43, was charged with assault and battery on a correctional facility employee, disturbing a correctional institution, and threats. Judge Mark Summerville ordered Maiden held in lieu of $10,000 on the new charges, and revoked Maiden’s bail on the existing charges. Summerville also ordered Maiden to stay away from the victim.
Assistant District Attorney Kevin Morgan said that at about 1:30 pm on Thursday, the caseworker was meeting with Maiden in a room at the jail when Maiden began punching the woman in her face and head. Correctional officers and another inmate quickly separated Maiden from the victim. The victim was transported by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment.
As staff were restraining him, Maiden threatened to have them killed, Morgan said.
Maiden is in jail awaiting trial on several cases, including an August 2 incident in which he punched a correctional officer at the jail, and a 2021 case involving an attack on a family member.
Maiden has been transferred to Essex County Sheriff’s Department for custody. He will return to court October 5 on the new charges.
