Roxbury man arraigned for shooting into unmarked police vehicle Sunday
BOSTON, September 26, 2022 — A Boston man was ordered held without bail today pending a September 29 dangerousness hearing after being arrested Sunday for shooting into an unmarked police vehicle at the scene of shots-fired call in Roxbury, District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.
ALBERTO POLANCO, 20, was charged in Boston Municipal Court Roxbury with assault with a dangerous weapon, illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
Assistant District Attorney Amanda Sheehan said that on Sunday at about 6:08 pm multiple Boston police officers responded to a shots-fired call at Waumbeck Street in Roxbury. A ShotSpotter activation detecting two rounds immediately followed the radio shots-fired transmission. An unmarked police vehicle responding to the scene was hit by bullets. The officer in the vehicle broadcasted a description of the shooter, who was identified as Polanco. Based on the identification, Polanco was located and arrested at his apartment in Roxbury.
The officer in the vehicle was not injured.
Police seized a Glock .22-cal pistol and ammunition from the apartment. Polanco has a pending case involving a May 2022 shooting in Providence, RI.
“This could have easily ended up being a far more tragic situation, with the officer or bystanders hit by bullets so carelessly and dangerously fired on an early Sunday evening. Luckily that didn’t happen, but this is another reminder of how our neighborhoods are threatened by illegal guns and the people who use them,” Hayden said.
