Man arraigned on negligent vehicle homicide charges in March Roslindale house crash that left one man dead, a second man injured

BOSTON, April 14, 2023 – A Roxbury man is facing motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation and other charges after being arraigned in West Roxbury BMC today in connection with a March 26 incident in which a vehicle crashed into a Roslindale home, killing one man and injuring another, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

JUAN MEDINA, 20, is charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, leaving the scene of personal injury or death and failing to yield at an intersection, a civil infraction. Judge Michael Bolden released Medina on person recognizance with the condition that he not drive and have no contact with the surviving victim and with the families of both victims.

Medina will return to court June 26 for a probable cause hearing.

Assistant District Attorney Colleen O’Neill said that on March 26 at about 5:01 p.m. Medina, driving southbound on Washington Street in Roslindale in a white Honda CRV, turned into the northbound lane, causing a gray Honda Accord to strike a nearby minivan and then a house located at 3968 Washington Street.

Two men were on or near the porch of the house when it was struck.  One of the men, Edigio D’Antuony, 60, was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead.  The other man, 62, sustained serious injuries.

Video secured by Boston police shows Medina step out of his vehicle after the crash, talk on a cell phone, then leave the scene after about eight minutes without speaking to police or identifying himself.  Investigators determined the address of the Honda CRV through surveillance video and witness statements.

The driver of the Accord remained on the scene and has not been charged.

“This is a tragic incident made all the more tragic by the fact that it was caused by a driver who simply didn’t wait until the lane was clear to make a turn.  That negligent operating action resulted in one man dead, another seriously injured and the driver facing substantial criminal charges.  It was all preventable by adhering to basic driving practices,” Hayden said.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
