Annual DA basketball tournament Wednesday brings youth and law enforcement together
BOSTON, June 27, 2023 – The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office’s annual Basketball for Peace tournament returns this week, bringing youth and law enforcement together for a day of fun and games, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
The tournament will be held tomorrow (Wednesday June 28) at the UMass Boston Clark Athletic Center. Suffolk County youth ages 12 through 15 will participate. In addition to members of the office, community partners from across the county will be in attendance.
District Attorney Hayden will address the attendees and encourage the youth to make safe choices that will make a positive impact on their communities. There will also be remarks made by a guest speaker and awards presented to community leaders.
“I’m thrilled to host this tournament again and to give these kids a day of safe and healthy fun. It is important for our youth to have the support and opportunities to achieve success. This tournament allows a chance to build positive relationships with adults and community partners – who can provide guidance and mentorship. When the community comes together to benefit our youth, we all win,” Hayden said.
Players will represent 3Point Foundation, Associacao Cabo Verdiano de Basquetbol (ACVB), Boston Panthers-Elite, Boston Showstoppers Condon Community Center, Hoops Collaborative, InnerCity Weightlifting, NECAA Dragons, Revere Police Activities League, Shelburne Community Center, and Teach 1 Basketball.
The Basketball for Peace Tournament will take place from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 100 Morrissey Boulevard in Dorchester. Media are invited to attend.
