Everett man charged with two separate robberies

BOSTON, July 11, 2023 – An Everett man is facing charges for robbing a customer at Eastern Bank last week and a TD bank the next day, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

JONATHAN PAGAN, 32, was charged Monday in BMC Central with conspiracy and unarmed robbery for the July 6 offense and ordered held on $7,500. Pagan was charged with armed robbery (firearm) for the July 7 offense and ordered held on $2,500. Judge James Coffey ordered Pagan to stay away from both bank locations.

On July 6 around 5:00 a.m., police responded to an unarmed robbery at Eastern Bank at 63 Franklin Street. The victim reported he was punched in the eye and robbed of $600. Police reviewed surveillance footage, observed the victim exit the ATM vestibule, and was immediately approached by two individuals, later identified as Pagan and Leroy Isuma. The victim stepped away and ran out into the street. Pagan and Isuma ran after the victim and Pagan is seen grabbing the victim and striking him, then pulling away with a yanking motion. Investigators were able to obtain screen shots of both Pagan and Isuma’s faces and clothing from the footage.

On July 7 around 8:33 a.m., police responded to a panic alarm at TD bank at 24 Winter Street. A bank teller reported an unknown male, later identified as Pagan, approached the teller station and said, “I have a gun.” The teller provided Pagan with bait money and $1,000 and activated the panic alarm. The teller described Pagan as a white or Hispanic male, about 5’8”, clean shaven, wearing a green shirt with black shorts and black shoes. Pagan fled toward Tremont Street. Officers located the GPS tracker from the bait money in the area of 2 Winter Place and observed a discarded money band inside the Downtown Crossing MBTA station. Officers followed Pagan to the Mass Ave. MBTA station and observed him speaking incoherently toward other officers at the station. Officers observed U.S. currency sticking out of Pagan’s shorts. A total of $875 was recovered but no firearm was located.

Pagan has two open cases for knowingly receiving stolen property and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Isuma will be charged for his role in the July 6 robbery.

“I applaud the teller’s quick thinking in this frightening situation. This individual not only chose to rob a member of society and a bank on two separate occasions but he chose to do so with violence and force. This is an example of collaborative and diligent police work and this offender will be held accountable,” Hayden said.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
