Two brothers charged after four firearms were recovered in vehicle
BOSTON, September 29, 2023 – Two brothers are facing multiple charges in Dorchester BMC after police recovered four firearms and hundreds of pills from their vehicle on Sunday, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
CHRISTOPHER SUMMERS, 51, of Boston and GARY SUMMERS, 54, of Brockton were each charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, four counts of carrying a firearm without a license, four counts of carrying a loaded firearm without a license, five counts of possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession with intent to distribute class B, C, and E substances, and two counts of receiving stolen property. Christopher Summers was also charged with a firearm violation with three prior violent or drug crimes. Gary Summers was also charged with a firearm violation with one prior violent or drug crime.
Both Christopher Summers and Gary Summers were arraigned on Monday and held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing today. Judge Jonathan Tynes did not find them dangerous and set bail at $3,000 and ordered them to stay away from Perth Street. They are both due back in court on November 15.
At about 12:40 a.m. on September 24, Boston police received a call for a person with a gun on Perth Street. The person was described as a male wearing a gray sweat suit and a black hat in a white Lexus with another male. When officers arrived, they observed a white Lexus and a male, later identified as Gary Summers, matching the description. The second passenger was later identified as Christopher Summers. Officers ordered both passengers to exit the vehicle.
Officers observed a dark gray backpack on the back seat of the passenger side with two firearms. Shortly after, officers observed a tied up black plastic bag with two additional firearms.
The firearms recovered were a Springfield Armory XD with thirteen rounds in the magazine, a Smith and Wesson 1911 with eight rounds in the magazine, a Ruger EC9s with seven rounds in the magazine, and a Kel-Tec P3AT with six rounds in the magazine. Both the Smith and Wesson and the Ruger EC9s were reported stolen. In addition, officers also found seven loose 9mm rounds of ammunition, multiple bags of pills and $2,100 in cash.
Hayden, who was at the scene of a Dorchester shooting earlier this month that left five people, including a brother and sister, with bullet wounds said the recovery of four guns was a “small victory in a very large campaign” against illegal gun trafficking and possession.
“Police did their job here and we as prosecutors are going to do ours, but if our joint efforts move forward amid a backdrop of societal indifference we’re not getting to where we need to be. There has to be outrage and shock and an insistence on full-civic action, especially when two young children playing outside their home are struck down in a wild spray of bullets. We need full attention from everyone,” Hayden said.
All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
