19-year-old held without bail for role in a December armed robbery

BOSTON, March 26, 2024 – A 19-year-old with pending armed robbery charges was found dangerous and held without bail Friday in Roxbury BMC on new charges stemming from a December armed robbery in Roxbury, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

ANTHONY ECHAVARRIA RAMIREZ, 19, of Roslindale was charged with masked and armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon (firearm), carrying a firearm without a license, and receiving stolen property.

Judge Kenneth Fiandaca found Echavarria Ramirez dangerous on Friday and ordered him held without bail.  Fiandaca also revoked Echavarria Ramirez’s bail on a pending armed robbery case out of BMC Central. Echavarria Ramirez also has four pending robbery cases out of West Roxbury BMC.

Echavarria Ramirez will return to Roxbury court on April 17 for a probable cause hearing on the new charges.

At about 10:18 p.m. on December 4, Boston police responded to a call on Frawley Street for a person with a gun. At the scene a female told officers she was walking home from work when two unknown males, wearing helmets and dark clothing, approached on a moped and yelled “don’t move, don’t move” while brandishing what she believed to be guns. The victim threw her purse and phone on the ground and the suspects took the items and fled toward Huntington Avenue.

The victim knocked on multiple residences for help to no avail. A person walking nearby let the victim call 911 from their phone.

Investigators got an assist when various items belonging to the victim, including her phone, were recovered during a search warrant executed at a Roslindale residence in January, in relation to multiple other robberies. The residence belonged to both Echavarria Ramirez and MORALIN DELEON-RAMIREZ.

Deleon-Ramirez, 20, is being held without bail for several robberies out of West Roxbury BMC and BMC Central.  He will be arraigned at a later date on the new charges.

“The victim in this case experienced a frightening ordeal perpetrated by two young men who pose clear, immediate and ongoing threats to our neighborhoods.  We are measured in our requests for dangerousness hearings.  Chief among our criteria is community safety.  Here we determined an intolerable threat to community safety, and we acted appropriately,” Hayden said.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
