Three men charged after police recover firearms, drugs from home

BOSTON, July 24, 2024 – Three people were arraigned Monday in West Roxbury BMC after police recovered two firearms and a large amount of drugs from a Roxbury residence during a search warrant last week, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

KEVIN PHILLIPS, 46, was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, illegal possession of ammunition, carrying a firearm without a license and possession to distribute a class B drug.

Judge Maureen Flaherty ordered Phillips held on $5,000 bail and home confinement with GPS monitoring if released.

SHELDON MCBYNUM, 58, and ROBERT DAVIDSON, 60, were both charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and possession of class A and B drugs.

Judge Flaherty ordered both McBynum and Davidson held on $2,500 bail. Davidson was ordered to home confinement with GPS monitoring. McBynum was ordered to GPS monitoring if released.

They are all due back in court on August 21 for probable cause hearings.

All three individuals have lengthy board of probation records.

At about 6:06 a.m. on July 19, members of the Boston police E-18 and E-13 Drug Control units and Boston police SWAT conducted a search warrant at a Beethoven Street residence in Roxbury.

Police recovered a silver revolver loaded with four rounds from the rear bedroom, a black semi-automatic handgun with one round in the chamber and nine in the magazine, and 27 loose rounds in the kitchen closet.

Officers also located various narcotics including crack cocaine, heroin, and several digital scales throughout the residence.

Hayden said the location of the search warrant has been a “problem residence” in the Beethoven Street neighborhood.

“This operation and the resulting arrests are in direct response to concerns in the community about suspicious, ongoing activity at that address. One problem residence can have a dramatic impact on the quality of life in the surrounding neighborhood. This response makes clear that police are aware of the community’s concerns and have endeavored to address them,” Hayden said.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
