Randolph man charged for his role in moped shooting and robbery over the weekend

BOSTON, August 21, 2024 – A Randolph man was arraigned Monday in Dorchester BMC in connection to an incident that occurred on Geneva Avenue over the weekend in which an individual was robbed, shot, and had their moped stolen, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

YANNI JULIEN, 30, was charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and several motor vehicle violations.

Judge Rebeca Figueroa ordered Julien held on $5,000 bail with GPS monitoring and an exclusion zone of 397 Geneva Avenue if released. Julien is due back in court on November 13 for a pre-trial hearing.

At about 2:20 a.m. on August 17, Boston police were notified that an individual was robbed, shot, and had his moped stolen in the area of 397 Geneva Avenue. Officers had a description of the suspect who had taken off in the direction of Columbia Road.

While patrolling the area for the suspect, officers observed two individuals on mopeds matching the description given at the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and Columbia Road.

As officers initiated a traffic stop, one of the individuals fled the area, while the other, later identified as Julien, remained on scene.

Officers conducted a pat frisk and immediately felt what they believed to be a firearm in Julien’s fanny pack. The fanny pack was unzipped and officers observed the muzzle of the firearm. Julien attempted to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended.

The recovered firearm was determined to be a Taurus 62S 9mm with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine.

“Getting illegal guns off the street and holding those who have them accountable are vital components to making our neighborhoods safer.  This incident remains under investigation and I wish the victim a speedy and full recovery,” Hayden said.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
