Boston man charged in two separate violent attacks faces dangerousness hearing tomorrow
BOSTON, August 6, 2024 – A Boston man is facing a dangerousness hearing tomorrow after being charged last month in Roxbury BMC with stabbing a 49-year-old man and then threatening his girlfriend after attacking her dog several days later, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
ABRAM ACEVEDO, 31, of Boston was charged on July 2 with attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (knife), animal cruelty, assault with a dangerous weapon (broom), and witness intimidation.
Judge Steven Kim ordered Acevedo held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on August 7.
At about 3:54 p.m. on June 24, while driving on Centre Street passing by the Bromley Heath housing development, Boston police observed a male, 49, bleeding heavily down his left side. Officers observed multiple stab wounds to the victim’s left arm. The victim reported a man, later identified as Acevedo, attacked him while trying to steal his motorcycle. Acevedo tried to flee with the victim’s motorcycle but abandoned it in a walkway.
The victim was transported to a local area hospital for treatment. He sustained numerous non-life threatening stab wounds.
Based on video surveillance and the victim’s description, investigators were able to determine Acevedo as the assailant.
On July 1, while the investigation into the June 24 incident was still underway, Boston police received a call from a female stating the individual she is dating, later identified as Acevedo, got upset and grabbed her dog, a Shih Tzu, by the back of the neck, causing the dog to yelp in pain. Acevedo then shook the dog several times and slammed him against the wall, causing him to vomit. As the victim attempted to leave Acevedo grabbed a broom and gestured as if to hit her. The victim was able to run from the house.
The victim reported receiving several earlier threats from Acevedo, and said that Acevedo tried to bite her face the week before. The victim also told police Acevedo told her he did “something bad on Centre Street last week.”
Police arrested Acevedo shortly after the July 1 incident. During an interview Acevedo admitted stabbing the June 24 victim while attempting to steal his motorcycle.
“We request dangerousness hearings only when an individual’s conduct presents an imminent or ongoing threat to the community, which is clearly the case here. Thankfully the injuries to the people and the dog in these incidents are non-life threatening. But the psychological trauma of attacks is always something we’re concerned about,” Hayden said.
All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
