Boston man who had sex trafficking convictions vacated by the SJC is now facing dangerousness hearing for new rape
BOSTON, September 10, 2024 – A Dorchester man who pleaded guilty to several human trafficking charges in 2016 and had his convictions vacated a month after he was released from prison is being held pending a dangerousness hearing after being charged Monday with beating and sexually assaulting a woman over the weekend, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
ANTHONY DEW, 42, was charged in Dorchester BMC with one count of aggravated rape. Judge Rebecca Figueroa ordered Dew held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Friday.
At about 2:12 a.m. on September 8, Boston police responded to a disturbance on Evelyn Street. Upon arrival, officers could hear an individual screaming. Officers observed a woman in the walkway with her jeans pulled down to her ankles and a T-shirt soaked in what appeared to officers to be blood, pulled up. Officers observed the victim’s face to be covered in blood and the victim was spitting up blood clots.
As officers approached the victim, she screamed “he raped me” and pointed to an apartment. The victim told police the man who attacked her, later identified as Dew, lived there and raped and beat her as she “went in and out” of consciousness.
The victim sustained contusions and abrasions all over her body and had swelling and bruising to her mouth, jaw, and both her eyes. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Dew arrived while first responders were processing the scene and became verbally combative with officers. Officers observed several scratches to his hand and face. Based on the description given by the victim, Dew was placed under arrest.
In 2016, Dew pleaded guilty to numerous sex trafficking, assault, and drug charges and received a prison sentence of eight to ten years. A month after finishing his sentence in 2023 his conviction was vacated by the Supreme Judicial Court due to ineffective counsel.
“This was a terrible, violent attack, and one likely to have lasting emotional and physical impacts on the victim. We will do everything we can to assist her now and as the case moves forward. The first step is to hold her attacker accountable for his intolerable conduct,” Hayden said.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
