Sharon man ordered held on $25k bail for assault, weapons and drug charges stemming from Saturday domestic violence incident at South Station

BOSTON, May 17, 2022— Suffolk prosecutors on Monday arraigned a Sharon man on assault and weapons charges stemming from a domestic violence incident at South Station on Saturday, District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.

JOSEPH DEFILIPPO, 35, was charged in Boston Municipal Court Central with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possessing ammunition without a firearm identification card, assault and battery on family or a household member, firearm violation with a prior drug or violent crime cpmvocto, recovery of stolen property over $1,200 and recovery of stolen property under $1,200, and possession of a Class B drug with intent to distribute.

Assistant District Attorney Andrew Haag requested that Defilippo be held on $30,000 bail and stay away from Boston and the victim. Judge John Garland set bail at $25,000 and ordered that Defilippo stay away from the victim.

At approximately 9:26 a.m. on May 14, two Boston Police officers observed Defilippo pulling the victim's hair while she was lying on the ground outside of South Station. They demanded he stop.  DeFilippo released her and identified her as his girlfriend. The officers observed scratch marks on the victim’s chest and cuts on her hands.

The officers placed Defilippo under arrest for assault and battery and handcuffed him. While searching him, the officers found a black firearm, later identified as a Smith & Wesson Shield M&P 9mm, loaded with ammunition, inside his sweatshirt. Defilippo was unable to produce a license to carry.  He told the officers that the gun belonged to his friend.

After transporting the defendant to headquarters for booking, an officer found in Defilippo's possession pills they determined to be Oxycodone and Propranolol. The oxycodone pills were in a small plastic bag, which officers believed to be for street sale. They also found documents identifying Defilippo and a firearm license belonging to another individual, issued by Peabody Police Department.

Defilippo returns to court on June 16. He is represented by Steven Topazio.
