No Criminal Charges in Death of BU Professor
Dr. David Jones fell to his death at JFK/UMass T station last year
BOSTON, January 21, 2022 — District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden today announced his office has completed its investigation into the tragic death of David K. Jones, who fell to his death Sept. 11, 2021, through a broken section of staircase on MBTA property at JFK Station. Jones, an avid runner, was on a run when he attempted to ascend the unrepaired stairs, which had been blocked off and unattended for more than a year.
“Any death is a tragedy and his family, loved ones, students, and colleagues continue to mourn his untimely passing,” said DA Hayden. “Based on a thorough and careful review of the evidence, however, we have determined that criminal charges are not warranted in connection with Dr. Jones’ death.”
Dr. Jones was an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Law, Policy and Management at Boston University’s School of Public Health. His research focused on the politics of health reform and the social determinants of health.
