BOSTON, October 19, 2022 — Two Boston men charged today with multiple firearm offenses are being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for October 20, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
TERRANCE PORTER, 20, is charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, possession of a high-capacity weapon and trespassing. MEKHI YOUNG, 18, is charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, receiving stolen property over $1200 and trespassing.
Judge David J. Breen of BMC Roxbury ordered Porter and Young held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for October 20, 2022.
Assistant District Attorney Amanda Sheehan said that on October 18, 2022, officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force were on patrol in the Orchard Park housing community when they noticed two males in heavy winter jackets and balaclava-style masks. When officers engaged, the individuals ran. During a foot pursuit, officers saw both men discard objects. The officers apprehend both individuals along with the discarded objects, which turned out to be firearms.
Along Porter’s flight path officers recovered a 9mm “ghost” gun with one round in the chamber and 14 rounds in the magazine. Along Young’s flight path officers recovered a 9mm Smith & Wesson reported stolen out of the Columbus, GA police department in November 2020. The firearm had one round in the chamber and seven rounds in the magazine.
“We see many guns on Boston streets originating in Georgia, and of course ghost guns are a major concern here and across the nation. This incident provides yet another example of the persistent problem of illegal guns in our neighborhoods,” Hayden said.
