Boston man charged with possessing illegal firearm, high-capacity magazines
BOSTON, November 21, 2022 — A Boston man is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing after being charged in Dorchester BMC today with possessing an illegal firearm and several high-capacity magazines, including a magazine capable of holding 31 rounds, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
RICKY HOLBROOK, 41, is charged with illegal possession of a firearm (subsequent offense), possession of illegal high-capacity magazines, illegal possession of ammunition, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Judge Lisa Grant ordered Holbrook held pending a November 30 dangerousness hearing.
Assistant District Attorney Nicole Gemba said that on Saturday at 11:20 a.m. Boston police responded to a call for a person with a gun on Outlook Road in Mattapan. As police set up positions outside the house, Holbrook exited the house onto the porch. Upon encountering police, Holbrook jumped off the porch and fled. He was apprehended shortly after and resisted officers attempting to subdue him. Once they subdued him, officers opened his backpack and found a Glock 19 9mm firearm with an empty inserted 31-round magazine, and a separate 15-round magazine containing 13 rounds.
“This is yet another example of the high-capacity style weaponry officers are encountering in Boston’s neighborhoods on a daily basis. The potential firepower here, and the frequency with which we’re seeing it, is truly frightening,” Hayden said.
