Jury finds Dorchester man guilty of three child rape counts in case dating to 1990s
BOSTON, November 22, 2022 — A Suffolk County Superior Court jury today found EDGARD ANDRE of Dorchester guilty on three counts of rape of a child in a case dating to the 1990s, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
Judge Sarah Weyland Ellis ordered Andre to return to courtroom 817 tomorrow at 10 a.m. for sentencing.
The jury found Andre guilty of sexually abusing a girl in the 1990s when the victim was between eight and 12 years old. Based on information provided years later to investigators by the victim, the case was revived and Andre was charged in 2016. The jury convicted Andre based entirely upon the victim’s testimony.
“We are very happy with this outcome, and for all the hard work put in by prosecutors and investigators on a case that presented major challenges. But the victim in this case deserves special credit, because it was her determination, her factual assurance and her compelling testimony that made the verdict possible,” Hayden said.
