Man Charged with Armed Robbery, Gun Offenses Ordered Held Without Bail

BOSTON, JUNE 30, 2022—A Mattapan man accused of a violent armed robbery and other serious offenses is being held without bail after a judge today determined he presents a danger to the community, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

DAKYM MURRAY, 29, was arraigned Friday in the Central Division of Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, assault and battery and armed robbery.

Murray was ordered held for 120 days following today’s dangerousness hearing.

Security camera footage captured Murray approaching the victim in the area of High St. in

Downtown Boston at approximately 2:45 a.m. on June 5.  Murray punched the victim in the face, causing facial injuries and knocking out several teeth, before taking the victim’s wallet. Footage then captured two unidentified individuals approach the area, one of whom points a firearm at the other.  Murray then produces a firearm and points it at the man with the gun, prompting an exchange of gunfire.  Bullets struck a parked vehicle and the window of a nearby building.

The robbery victim was caught in the crossfire but was not struck.  Murray then chased the robbery victim on foot, firing at least one shot in the victim’s direction.  No one was struck.

Boston Police officers responding to a report of gun fire located the victim.  At the scene of the shooting, investigators located two sets of car keys, an iPhone, two live rounds of ammunition,

and eight shell casings.  They also located a trail of reddish-brown stains that had been left by the victim as he fled, bleeding.  Murray returned to the location and attempted to enter the crime scene, informing officers that he was looking for a lost iPhone.  Officers observed the same reddish-brown stains on his shoes.  Further investigation revealed that one set of car keys located at the crime scene belonged to a vehicle that had been rented under Murray’s name.

The other two men at the scene have not been identified or apprehended.

“This wild and strange sequence of events speaks to some of our greatest concerns as prosecutors: the unacceptable ease of access to illegal firearms, the willingness of individuals to use those firearms, and the safety of community members who are placed in the path of a bullet. Gun violence is an issue that impacts all of us, and we each have a role in stopping it and creating safer communities,” Hayden said.

Murray returns to court on July 29. He is represented by Attorney Brett Levy.
