Dangerousness hearing ordered for Boston man accused of assaulting woman Monday

BOSTON, February 22, 2023 — A Boston man who attacked and threatened to kill a woman in Dorchester Monday is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Friday, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

ANDREW MILLER, 39, was charged yesterday in Dorchester BMC with assault and battery on a household or family member, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) and threats.  Judge Jonathan Tyne ordered Miller held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Friday, February 24.

On Monday, February 20, at about 6:52 p.m. Boston police responded to a radio call for a person screaming on Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester.  On arrival officers witnessed an individual, later identified as Miller, standing outside the passenger side door of a car, punching and kicking a female sitting in the passenger seat.  Officers subdued and handcuffed Miller.

The victim told police she had been driving with Miller when an argument ensued.  The victim said Miller punched her several times in the vehicle, then continued to attack her after he exited the vehicle. Officers noted that the victim had a severely swollen lip and numerous bumps on her forehead.

After being handcuffed, Miller stated to officers “That’s why people get guns, and that’s why females get shot.  I’m going to (expletive) murder her.”  Later, while being treated for a facial laceration at Boston Medical Center, Miller stated “I gave her a couple hard rights, a left, and an uppercut.  Lucky I didn’t stab her. Should have knocked her unconscious.  She’s going to pay for this. She’s lucky I didn’t have a knife and stab the (expletive). This is why females get killed.  She’s paying for everything.”

The victim refused medical treatment at the scene.

“It’s very fortunate that officers arrived at this scene as quickly as they did, because this man’s actions and his violence-laden statements make clear that the outcome could have been far worse had more time elapsed.  The person who placed the 911 call and the officers who responded deserve enormous credit for limiting the extent of this terrible attack,” Hayden said.
