Bail denied for Boston man charged with July 2022 stabbing murder
BOSTON, February 21, 2023 — A Boston man was ordered held without bail today after being charged in Suffolk Superior Court with the July 2022 stabbing death of a man at a social club in Dorchester, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden today announced.
DWIGHT WATSON, 55, is charged with murdering Urvin Gerald, 48, of Dorchester on July 16 at the Mount Horeb Lodge on Harvard Street. Clerk Magistrate Stacey Pichardo ordered Watson held without bail. He will return to court March 28 for a pre-trial hearing.
At about 1:03 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, police responded to the Mount Horeb Lodge and found Gerald suffering from a stab wound. Gerald was transported to Boston Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators determined that there was an earlier altercation between the victim and an individual known as “Dog Bite.” That individual was later identified as Watson, who was a regular attendee at the lodge. Lodge security separated Watson and Gerald after the altercation and Watson was escorted out of the facility. About 30 minutes later, Gerald exited the rear of the lodge. In the parking area, Watson suddenly appeared and stabbed Gerald in the neck, and then fled. The stabbing was caught on surveillance video.
Investigators soon learned that Watson had fled the state. On January 27 Watson was arrested on a murder warrant by U.S. Marshals in Ohio. Watson was returned to Boston over the weekend by members of the Boston Police fugitive unit.
“This was a careful and methodical investigation by the Boston Police homicide unit and their efforts have resulted in Mr. Watson being brought back to answer for his actions. Mr. Watson has found out, as have so many before him, that leaving the state is in no way an escape from justice,” Hayden said.
