Everyday Superheroes to Assemble in Allston for Ginormous Climb

BOSTON, May 14, 2022— District Attorney Hayden will join more than 100 climbers and dozens of volunteers tomorrow for the ninth annual Ginormous Climb to benefit child survivors of abuse, neglect and exploitation.

The annual stair climb raises funds to support the vital services offered to survivors at the Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County (CAC).  Participants will be challenged to climb the stairs of Harvard Stadium in Allston during the superhero-themed event.  This year marks the first time the event will be held at the outdoor stadium and the first time since 2019 that it has been held in person.

"I am honored to support the Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County, which does invaluable work on behalf of children who have been harmed," said Hayden. "My office takes seriously our obligation to support victims of child abuse. The stairs of Harvard Stadium are an infamous challenge and not for the weak of heart. But if a child can find the strength and courage to disclose abuse, then we can find the strength to climb."

The CAC simplifies the process of connecting children who have survived abuse with resources for healing. It coordinates treatment plans between multiple services, including prosecutors, police, medical and mental health clinicians and service providers. The CAC minimizes the number of times a child needs to recount their abuse and visit different agencies, allowing for children and their nonoffending caretakers to focus on the healing process.

Approximately 115 climbers have raised more than $76,000 and fundraising continues.  More than 50 volunteers will join the climbers, along with representatives of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, CAC, event co-sponsor Boston Police Department, survivors and supporters.  This year’s event will also include lawn games and food trucks for the first time.

Online registration has closed, but those interested in climbing may register in person tomorrow morning. Learn more about the climb or make a donation at ginormousclimb.com. More information about the Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County can be found at suffolkcac.org.
