Hyde Park man found dangerous after police recover drugs, 100-plus rounds of ammunition from his vehicle
BOSTON, July 1, 2024 – A Hyde Park man is being held on $10,000 bail on numerous firearm and drug charges after police last week found a firearm, 143 rounds of ammunition, and drugs in his vehicle, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
ARN JONES, 46, of Hyde Park was charged in Roxbury BMC June 25 with distributing a class B substance, possession to distribute a class A, D, and B substance (subsequent offense), carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license (second offense), carrying a loaded firearm without a license, two counts of possession of ammunition without an FID card (subsequent offense), four counts of possession of a large capacity feeding device, and a firearm violation with three prior violent or drug crimes.
Judge David Poole found Jones dangerous and ordered him held on $10,000 bail and home confinement with GPS monitoring if released. Jones will return to court July 29 for a probable cause hearing.
On June 22, members of the Boston Police Drug Control Unit (DCU) were on patrol in the area of Gerard and Island streets when they observed a drug transaction between Jones and another individual. Officers recovered 38 plastic bags of crack cocaine, three bags of Fentanyl, marijuana, and $233 in cash from Jones.
Jones’ vehicle was seized as a result of an ongoing investigation and a search warrant was executed. Officers recovered a loaded black Glock firearm with one round in the chamber and five in the magazine. They also recovered two large capacity feeding devices containing eight rounds each, an ammunition box containing 40 rounds, and a clear plastic bag containing 22 rounds. A safe located in the trunk of the vehicle contained two additional large capacity feeding devices, one loaded with 31 rounds and the other loaded with 28 rounds.
A knife, firearm holster, handcuff holster, two laser sights, 12 grams of cocaine, eight glass jars and four plastic bags of marijuana and $275 in cash were also recovered from Jones’ vehicle.
“This much ammunition and this many large-capacity magazines presented an imminent threat to our neighborhoods. Getting them off the street increased our collective safety in an instant. This is the type of urban weaponry police encounter all too often. Police and prosecutors will take a responsible approach on this case, as with all similar cases, but the larger answer rests with fashioning an effective national approach to illegal firearms,” Hayden said.
All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
