Three Arraigned for Desecration of Grave

BOSTON, April 5, 2022— Suffolk prosecutors arraigned three men in connection to the March 29 theft of a headstone at Oak Lawn Cemetery, District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.

On Monday, JIOVANNY MATOS, 22, was arraigned in the West Roxbury Division of Boston Municipal Court on charges of malicious destruction of property, larceny over $1,200, and desecration of a place of burial.  The court revoked bail on Matos's open case and imposed a $50,000 bail. On Tuesday, TYRESE SEALY, 20, and TYLER GREENE-DAVIS, 22, were arraigned on the same charges. Judge Garland revoked each defendant’s bail in pending criminal cases for 90 days and imposed new bails of $7,500 for Sealy and $10,000 for Greene-Davis.

The three defendants are alleged to have stolen the headstone of a teen murdered in 2017. The theft occurred at 6:18 p.m. on March 29.  The larceny followed the theft of another headstone belonging to a teen murdered in 2015.  Both incidents remain under investigation.

“These senseless crimes do nothing but further heartbreak for these young victims’ loved ones and communities.  This is not a prank, it is not a game, and it will not be tolerated.  I commend the police and community members who have been so alert and responsive to this situation.  My heart goes out to the families that have been impacted by these crimes, and my office remains available to them as they process the desecration of their loved one’s graves,” District Attorney Hayden said.

The Commonwealth is represented by Assistant District Attorney Alexander Jones and District Attorney Laura Drohan. Matos was represented at arraignment by Amaylah Israel and returns to court May 10. Sealy is represented by Aiden Stuart. Greene-Davis is represented by Davis Shea.  Both return to court April 29.
